Rule #1 Create Your Training Habit

Here we go. We are 21-weeks from the Catalina Marathon.

If you asked me what I think the #1 Rule you should focus on now that the training for your race should become serious, I would tell you, “Create your training habit.”

21-weeks is a long time but the race will sneak up on you if you don’t create your habit. What does that mean?

You need a goal and a plan. I talked about this on my last Catalina Marathon training post (scroll down to the next post). Do you want to be competitive? Do you just want to finish? Do you have a personal time goal? Believe or not, your training plan probably won’t be that much different no matter which goal you choose.

Here are a few things to consider:

1.) It’s a marathon – 26.2 miles, you have to prepare to out there running and/or walking for hours.

2.) It’s hilly and don’t just worry about the uphills because downhill running can take it’s own toll on your body too.

3.) It’s a destination marathon and destination races require more planning.

Back to Creating Your Training Habit

Ask yourself,

“How many days do I think I can get out and train per week?”
“Am I scheduling in extra time a week for longer runs?”
“Do I have time to cross-train?”

Once you answer those questions you can start to design a strong personalized training plan.

If all this sounds confusing, difficult, or overwhelming, that’s what I am here for. You can sign up for a training program with me by contacting me at: steve@marathontraining.tv
